The Chinese National Human Genome Center, Beijing (CHGB), was established as one of the national-level genome research center approved by the Ministry of Science & Technology. CHGB coordinates scientific activities in human genome research with the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences(CAMS), Peking University, Academy of Military Medical Sciences, Chinese Academy of Science(CAS), Chinese National Human Genome Center at Shanghai, Microbial Genome Center at Ministry of Health, Tsinghua University, Institute of Biophysics Academia Sinica, Peking Union Hospital, Beijing Fuwai Hospital, Cancer Hospital at CAMS, Beijing Cancer Hospital, Peking University First Hospital, People's Hospital of Peking University, General Hospital of PLA, Tianjin Medical University, Roche Co. etc.
Prof. Boqin Qiang, academician of CAS, are appointed Director and Chief Scientist
of CHGB. Prof. Wu Min, academician of CAS, assumes the honorary Chairman of the
academic committee. Prof. Yan Shen, academician of CAS, Prof. Fuchu He, academician
of CAS, Prof. Dalong Ma, and Prof. Biao Chen are deputy directors of CHGB.
CHGB
adopts the administrative system of a modern enterprise in order to promote the
commercialization of research products and initiate genome industry in China.
As a national research institution, CHGB integrates all high-level activities
in basic research, clinical investigation, population genetics and bioinformatics
projects in Beijing and North China. Following the trend of international human
genome research, CHGB built a series of technological platforms and provides technical
services to facilitate human genome research so that China can compete successfully
in the international arena.
Achievement: 1) 1% HGP genome sequencing (terminal of p-arm on chromosome
3) 2) Large-scale sequencing of important pathogenic microorganisms, such
as Shigella flexneri 2a, shrimp white spot bacilliform virus, Xanphomonas,
etc. 3) cooperating with hospitals to identify mutant gene of hereditary opalescent
dentin and mutant gene of childhood absence epilepsy and mutant gene of dilated
cardiomyopathy etc. 4) CHGB has set up human important genetic resource platform
which is the genetic resources hub in North China. CHGB has collected 20,000
samples for heart research and has deposited samples such as cells and DNA
samples from patients with heart disease, hypertension, cancer, Alzheimer
disease, etc. 5) We have established an integrated system of data collection
& storage, data analysis and annotation as well as the expression profiles
of fatal liver, fetal hippocampus, tissues from hypertensive patients, etc.
6) From year 1999 to present, CHGB has published more than 70 papers in Nature
Genetics, Nature, FASEB J, Journal of Biological Chemistry, etc. 7) Up to
now, CHGB has applied 20PCT and national patents; 8) CHGB has gained about
10 awards such as China Awards for Natural Science and Chinese Medical Sciences
and Technology Award. 9) CHGB has established post-doctor station.
CHGB takes on Chinese important scientific and technological projects and impels
genomics and proteomics in the world. In next several years, CHGB continues to
serve for and support China important scientific and technological projects, set
up and develop functional genomics research platform, train an excellent group,
aiming at promoting competitive power and CHGB's value.
